Elevate Your Space – Without The Commitment

Today’s Guest of Honor…a simple curtain rod

I used to have curtains here, but I’m a natural light girl, and they were just awkward. If they were left closed, I couldn’t see if someone was sneaking up on my patio, and if they were open, I couldn’t use the windowsill as a shelf. I ended up just taking the rod and everything down.

A couple of weeks ago, I had an idea, so I asked my sweet husband, who never says no, to put it back up. Then I threw a couple of my hanging plants up there and didn’t say a word. It didn’t take him long to ask, “Oh.. is that why you wanted it back up there?” He loves my shenanigans even if he doesn’t admit it. My favorite is in a few weeks, when I want to reorganize and/or redecorate completely, it’s as simple as taking them down!

If you need a little convincing:

  • 1.Renter/Husband friendly – no extra holes or fixtures needed
  • 2. You’re using the most of your space without sacrificing counter space
  • 3. Plants love natural light – I love a good dose of Vitamin D myself
  • 4. Decor that makes your space feel homey without the commitment

Be sure to check the weight limit of the rod you are using, as well as the hinges holding it up, and keep in mind how much weight you’re adding. As your happy, thriving plants grow, you may need to rotate them around!

Another good option would be to lay a cute vintage wooden ladder over the top of your cabinets and let the rungs on the ladder hold up your plants! With this option, it is even less of a commitment, and no power tools are necessary!

Not sure which plants are the best options?

  • Low Light: Pothos, Philodendron (Heartleaf), English Ivy, Spider Plant
  • Medium Light/ Part Sun: Tradescantia, Strings of Pearls, Hearts, Dolphins, Hoya
  • Bright Light: Pothos- especially the variegated varieties, will explode, Wandering Dude, String of Turtles

Full disclosure– I will not be held responsible for your new love of houseplants, but I will always welcome you to the Crazy Plant Lady club!
